MEET AND GREET THE CANDIDATES

On May 3rd Grayson County is holding local candidates and special elections. Please pay attention to those "Vote Here" signs in your neighborhood. Your vote counts the most during this season because those candidates elected and issues voted on are the ones that affect your daily life the most profoundly.

"National elections may shake the world" according to CitizensGO, "but local elections shake our schools, communities, and homes." (citizensgo.org/en/contact)

Here are some reasons why you must vote in Local Elections:

• Zoning laws can change your community. They determine whether churches, schools, shelters -- or strip clubs and abortion clinics -- are allowed in your neighborhood.

• Election Integrity starts locally. Local boards oversee how ballots are counted, how elections are run, and how polling places are secured.

• Drag shows and gender policies are decided by city councils. If you care about protecting public spaces for families, you cannot afford to skip local elections.

• Crime and public safety begin with local leadership. City leaders determine whether criminals are prosecuted or released.

• COVID mandates exposed the reach of local power. Mask mandates, shutdowns, church closures -- all came from the local level. The next crisis will also.

• Your school board controls your child's classroom. From CRT to gender ideology to book bans, your local board holds the pen.

• Your taxes are on the line. Bond proposals, property tax hikes, and budget decisions are all voted on at the local level. Local elections are easier to win--and lose.

• Just a few hundred votes often decide them. Your vote carries real, measurable weight.

• If you don't vote, someone else may be voting for you. And that "someone else" may be pushing an agenda completely contrary to your values.

We vote to make a difference. Don't sit it out. Your community is counting on you!
